February 2022 Newsletter

February 4, 2022

Dear Parents and Families,

Happy February! Today marks our 100th Day of School. There were lots of fun activities planned here at the school in many classrooms! February will continue to be a busy (short) month as we head into Spring. Please be prepared to receive several forms of communication from myself, the office, and teachers regarding all that is going on.

Attached to this email, you will find a flyer from one of our PTO parents, please take a look at this at your convenience.

As you know, our Open Enrollment is still open, this will conclude on February 18th. We are still accepting applications for the 2022-2023 school year. Help spread the word!

This week we welcomed our new PE Teacher, Mr. Jackson to campus. All students will have PE twice a week with Mr. Jackson on Wednesday and Friday-please make sure your children are wearing sneakers on days that we have PE. Next week, on February 11th, Ms. Williams, our 2nd Grade Teacher, will be leaving Tillery Charter Academy. We are thankful for her time and
dedication to the school, families, and parents; Ms. Williams has been with us since we opened in 2019. We wish her all the best. Once we have a new teacher, she will be introduced and welcomed to TCA.

Thank you to everyone who has helped stock up on some much needed supplies! If there is anything you’d like to donate please send the items to the office or call Mrs. Lucas to see what is needed.

Important Dates:

February 18th and 21st-No School for students
February 22nd-Progress Reports will be sent home

January 2022 Newsletter

January 7, 2022

Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a restful break and is back into the groove of school and work. After a busy week at TCA, we are ready to tackle 2022 and all that it has to offer. As students come back to school, they will continue to work with Mrs. Jackson on the Voyage Program. The next anchor and action point is compassion. Students will work on caring about how others feel, why it’s important to understand other people’s feelings and show them compassion, and how compassion can bring about positive changes in the lives of others. Please ask them about this.

If you have not already done so, please take a minute to fill out the mask survey that was sent out earlier this week. As a reminder, masks are optional in the building, but must be worn when people are within 3 feet of each other and on the school bus.

I appreciate everyone’s understanding as we made the call to delay school for 2 hours this morning (1/7). For the future, it is TCA’s policy to follow the lead of Montgomery County Public Schools and their inclement weather policy. Communication will be sent out via email, Class Dojo, and our social media (FB and IG).

Looking ahead, we have a few important dates to be mindful of:

January 14th and 17th- No School for students

January 21st- Report Cards will be sent home

January 31st-February 4th-NWEA MAP Testing Week (K-4)

February 18th and 21st- No School for students

February 28th- March 4th-Scholastic Book Fair at TCA (PTO Sponsored)

As we begin next week, I want to stress the importance of an on time arrival to school and the appropriate pick up time for all students. Instruction for all students begins at 8:00 am and continues until 3:00 pm each day. Please be mindful of dropping off late and picking up early as students are missing important information, learning time, and social time with their classmates and teachers.

I hope everyone has a safe and healthy weekend.

Respectfully,
Teresa Harrison

Dear Parents and Tillery Families,

A BIG THANK YOU to our Tillery families and friends for making our Fall Festival a success last night! We raised over $250 dollars in our 50/50 raffle! Leland Freeman’s family was the lucky winner of the raffle! Thank you all for participating and for your continued support.

If you would like to be more involved with PTO and our upcoming events, please plan to attend the next PTO meeting on November 2nd at 6:00 pm.

Looking forward to next week-There is no school on Monday the 25th, this will serve as a workday and conference day for faculty and staff. I encourage you to make every attempt possible to have a conference with your child’s teacher. Please enjoy the long weekend! Tuesday, the 26th will be the start of the 2nd quarter. I am happy to let all of you know that ALL of our digital and printed curriculum is now here! All students also have their own Chromebook to use in the classroom. Please be on the lookout for more materials to come home, a more robust curriculum delivery, and a renewed excitement from the faculty and staff as we begin this marking period. Daily communication will continue to come home via the agenda and daily folder, and all weekly work will be sent home in Friday afternoons for you to look over with your child. On Friday, the first
graders will be visiting Millstone Creek Orchards in Ramseur. Next Friday is also Ice Cream Friday!

If your child is a bus rider, a list of bus rules and a contract will be sent home next week. Please continue to talk to your child about the importance of riding the bus safely and listening to all rules and regulations. As a reminder for the students, rules will also be posted on every seat back on the bus next week! Thank you for your cooperation.

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

October 2021 Newsletter 1

October 1, 2021

Happy October! I hope this letter finds you all well and enjoying some of the cooler weather and Fall. As you know we are well into the first quarter of school. Progress reports were sent home last week and Report Cards will go home on the 29th. Conferences are also quickly approaching and you will be hearing from your child’s teacher to set up a time for this. Conferences are scheduled for October 25th. This is a conference/workday for teachers and there is no school for students.

As you know, Ms. Jackson has joined us at Tillery as our Guidance Director. While she is serving in many capacities, one of her main focuses will be on working with students in the classrooms using our Voyage Curriculum. This curriculum focuses on character development and has many lessons that go along with it. The first lesson will be centered around Respect. Students will concentrate on treating others how they would like to be treated, being OK with others who are different, and ways to show respect in the classroom and at home. We are excited for all they are going to learn and experience on these adventures. A note was sent home about this in the folders today.

Here are a few reminders that I’d like to share with you as we enter the month of October. It is imperative that your children arrive at school on time each and every day. Classes start at 8:00 am and students are considered tardy at 8:10 am. If you arrive later than 8:10, you must park and walk your children into the building and sign them in. If you are utilizing the car line in the morning and afternoon, please stay in your car and we will let the children out safely. The line tends to back up quickly and we want to be efficient as parents drop off and start their day. In the afternoon, if you are not here by 3:15 pm, your child will go to Aftercare. Lunches must be ordered by 12:00 pm on Friday for the next week. Send all money to school labeled with your child’s name and what you are paying for. Thank you in advance for your cooperation with this.

Important Dates:
10/5 PTO Meeting at 8:15 am
10/14 Picture Day
10/21 Fall Festival at TCA 5:30 pm-7:30 pm
10/25 No School for Students, Conference Workday for Teachers
10/29 Report Cards sent home

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

August 2021 Newsletter

August 27, 2021

Dear Parents and Tillery Families,

Thank you from all of us at TCA for an exciting and productive first week at Tillery Charter Academy. It is so refreshing to see such a large group of excited and happy students and staff enter our doors each morning.

I wanted to update all of you on a few things as we continue to grow. Our website is in the process of being updated, this transition will take place in the next few weeks. New content will be added and you will still be able to order lunches from this site. As a reminder for lunch, please order by 12 pm on Friday for the upcoming week. When paying for lunch, send the money to school in a labeled envelope with your child’s name on it. If you do not order lunch or your child comes to school without a lunch, a cold lunch will be provided. Extra hot lunches are not ordered.

Students need to have sneakers on everyday. This is the safest footwear for the students to be wearing during PE and when at recess. All students play on the playground everyday and all students attend PE on Wednesday and Friday.

Misty Benton will be joining the TCA team as our new bus driver for the Asheboro route. She will start on Monday and will be ready to transport the students safely to school.

A sweatshirt order will be sent home with students today. If you are paying with a check, please be sure to make it out to Heirloom Ink, not TCA.

Below are a few important dates that are coming up. Please mark your calendars.

  • September 6 No School, Labor Day Holiday
  • September 7 PTO Meeting, 8:15 am Common Room
  • September 9 Back to School Night, 6:00 pm-7:30 pm
