Mrs. Kathy Garner, Kindergarten

Kathy Garner joined the Tillery Charter Staff in February of 2022. She has many years of experience in education and recently retired from Randolph County Schools. She is very excited to work with our students at Tillery Charter! Mrs. Garner attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary education (K-6) and a Master’s Degree in Elementary Education from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University.
Mrs. Garner’s work experience has been in grades K-2 plus Reading for Randolph County Schools. She loves watching children grow academically and socially. She also likes to challenge children to be the best they can be.
Mrs. Garner is married and lives in Randolph County. Together they have five grown children and two inlaws. Mrs. Garner and her husband love traveling and activities at church.

Mrs. Leslie King, Kindergarten

Leslie King joined Tillery Charter Academy in their first year as a new school in 2019. Prior to joining Tillery Charter Academy, Mrs. King worked as a Pre-K teacher for 12 years in Randolph County. In May of 2019, Mrs. King received her Bachelor’s Degree in Human Family Studies, with a Concentration of Early Care and Early Education from University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
Mrs. King grew up in Randolph County, and is married with three children. When she has free time she enjoys reading, and spending time with friends and family.
Mrs. King’s experience and passion for working with children will help her on this journey. Her passion is working with children and she is an advocate for them. Mrs. King believes in them, strives to encourage and is a voice for them.

Mrs. Tami Henson, First Grade

Tami Henson will be joining Tillery Charter Academy for the 2021-2022 school year. She has many years of experience in education and has recently retired from Chatham County Schools. She looks forward to helping your child learn and grow. Mrs. Henson has experience teaching in grades one through five.
Mrs. Henson attended The University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education (K-6), and a Master’s Degree in Reading Education and School Administration.
Mrs. Henson began her teaching career in Randolph County as a first grade teacher for seven years. She later took a position in Guilford County as an assistant principal and after leaving Guilford County, she went to Asheboro City Schools and taught first grade. Mrs. Henson has spent the last eighteen years teaching various grades at Bennett Elementary School in Chatham County.
Mrs. Henson believes that all children can learn. She plans to provide a nurturing environment where all students feel loved and respected. She believes educators must meet each student at his or her developmental level and help them grow and learn.
Mrs. Henson is married and lives in Randolph County, near the Coleridge area. She has two college age children. Her son, Tanner graduated from The University of North Carolina at Chapel-Hill in May of 2020. He is currently a law school student at Wake Forest University. Macy, her daughter, graduated from Chatham Central High School this year and will be attending The University of North Carolina at Chapel-Hill in the fall. She plans to double major in Business and Political Science and after graduation she plans to pursue a degree in law.
Mrs. Henson loves spending time with her family. Her children have a bluegrass band and travel across the state playing for different events. Macy is also a competitive clogger and is part of a National Title team. Mrs. Henson also loves to read, walk, and spend time at the beach.

Mrs. Kendra Jordan, First Grade

Mrs. Jordan graduated from High Point University where she earned her bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education.
Mrs. Jordan has joined TCA after having taught in the Randolph County Public School System for 19 years. In Randolph County, she taught first, second, and third graders. She also taught sixth grade for two years.
Mrs. Jordan enjoys working with young children. She loves teaching her favorite subject, science, and she especially enjoys teaching and inspiring students to read.
Mrs. Jordan is married and has a daughter who attends TCA. She enjoys spending time with her family and being in nature.

Ms. Tyler Hancock, Second Grade

Tyler Hancock joined Tillery Charter Academy in 2024 as a Teacher Assistant. After graduation, she began her first year of teaching in August of 2024. Before joining Tillery Charter Academy, Mrs. Hancock worked as a braille specialist and teacher assistant in special education in Moore County Schools for 4 years. In May of 2024, Mrs. Hancock received her Bachelor’s Degrees in Elementary Education and Special Education from St. Andrews University.
Mrs. Hancock grew up in Moore County and is married with three children. Two sons and a daughter who also attend Tillery Charter Academy. When she has free time, she enjoys reading, being outdoors, and spending time with friends and family.
I teach because I want to make a difference in student’s lives. I want to help them develop skills to become lifelong learners and enjoy learning. I want my students to know that they can learn and that they have support. Above all else, I want my students to know that they are important and that they are loved!

Mrs. Teresa Honstead, 3rd Grade

My name is Teresa Honstead. I am currently teaching elementary education. My background and experiences include Middle School Social Studies, High School Psychology, and High School World History. When I’m not teaching, I love to travel to historical locations with my husband and learn about the rich history of our great Nation. I earned a Bachelor’s Degree in History from American Military University. I also earned an Undergraduate Certificate in Forensic Studies. My passion for lifelong learning is something I want to share. with students as they enter my classroom. My philosophy as a teacher is one of critical thinking and problem-solving skills. I want my students to leave the classroom asking difficult questions because that is where real learning can take place.

Ms. Andrea Marshall, Fourth Grade

Andrea Marshall joined Tillery Charter Academy in 2024/2025 as a fourth-grade teacher. She previously retired from Troy Elementary and worked in Montgomery County Schools for 33 years.
Mrs. Marshall grew up in Troy, is married with three children, and has five grandchildren. She enjoys her free time crafting and reading. She is excited to be a part of the Tillery Charter Academy family.

Mrs. Brenda Allred, Fifth Grade

Brenda Allred joined Tillery Charter Staff in January 2023.She is retired from Randolph County Schools. Mrs. Allred attended Pfeiffer University. She has a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Elementary Education (K-6).
Mrs. Allred’s work experience includes kindergarten through fifth grade. Her goal is to create lifelong learners.
Mrs. Allred is married and lives in Randolph County. She has two wonderful children. She enjoys sports, spending time with family and reading.

Mrs. Melanie Chapman, Fifth Grade

Melanie Chapman joined Tillery Charter Academy in August 2023. Before joining Tillery Charter Academy, she was the testing coordinator at High Point University working with students with disabilities. Before working at HPU, she was a 5th and 6th grade math teacher in Randolph County. In May 2013, Mrs. Chapman earned her Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
Mrs. Chapman is married to her husband, Chris, who is a Physical Education teacher and also the athletic director at Southwestern Randolph High School. They have three children, Erin, Caitlyn, and Brayden. Erin and Caitlyn live in Nashville, TN and work in healthcare. Brayden is a senior in high school. When Mrs. Chapman is not attending her son’s basketball games or golf matches, she enjoys reading, going to the beach, crafting, and spending time with our dog, Marley!

Ms. Karen Rouse, 6th Grade

Karen Rouse attended East Tennessee State University and graduated in 1992 with a degree in Elementary Education. She is certified to teach grades kindergarten through 9th grade. She returned to High Point University in 2005 to add to her licensure to teach academically gifted students.
She is a retired teacher from Randolph County Schools, where she taught 6th, 7th, and 8th grade English Language Arts.
She is married to her husband, Greg, and have lived in Randolph County for the last 30 years. She has two children and a dog named Diesel. She enjoys traveling, reading, and being at the beach, but most importantly, she enjoys spending time with her granddaughter.
